Enough members expressed their interest to move forward with an anthology. A cover was designed, and several submissions were received. Publication goals: 20 members, 400 pages, 80-100k words.
As of 9/07/24...50 pages and 8,500 words reached - 3 members in PDF proof
As of 9/14/24...58 pages and 10,500 words reached - 4 members in PDF proof
As of 9/21/24...73 pages and 14,500 words reached - 4 members in PDF proof
As of 9/28/24...80 pages and 16,000 words reached - 4 members in PDF proof
During the September meeting...members were able to examine two different prototypes of HORIZONS and cast their votes regarding two issues, wherein it was decided that cover would use the black border around the title (see revised image), and copies would be produced with a glossy finish as opposed to a matte finish. In addition, based on the great pieces created during Jim's writing prompt exercise, several of those "works" may also appear in the anthology.
As of 10/07/24...114 pages and 23,800 words reached - 7 members in PDF proof
As of 10/14/24...122 pages and 26,400 words reached - 7 members in PDF proof
As of 10/21/24...124 pages and 26,700 words reached - 7 members in PDF proof
As of 10/28/24...130 pages and 27,800 words reached - 8 members in PDF proof
During the October meeting...several more members were able to preview the two different prototypes of HORIZONS, and a couple members also decided to submit their works. There was additional clarification regarding submitting something that might be published in the future, and members were advised to double-check with each publisher if they accept previously published works, because some do not. However, if members have already self-published, they are more than able to submit those works to HORZIONS without surrendering any copyright.
NOVEMBER 10TH UPDATE: We are nearly halfway to reaching the initial goal of 20 members, 400 pages, and 80-100,000 words. But at the same time, we have less than 6 weeks to meet the targeted date (fast approaching) in order to have "copies in hand" for our December meeting. Thus, it is now time to establish submission deadlines for each category given the amount of time involved to review, revise and approve each submission for inclusion.
Poetry submissions will be accepted up to December 5, 2024.
Prose submissions will be accepted up to November 25, 2024.
Potpourri submissions will be accepted up to November 18, 2024.
Profile submissions must be submitted (or approved) no later than December 7, 2024.
To help expedite this last round of submissions, please email your word documents (formatting not vital) to Contests@NorthAvenuePublishing.com and indicate the category (Poetry, Prose, Potpourri, or Profile) in the subject line so it is given immediate attention. Please use separate emails for separate categories.
As a reminder, each contributor will receive complimentary copies and additional copies will be donated to TPPL as a thank you for all that they do for the club. Though not confirmed, nor the subject broached as of yet, I hope that the library will be able to "sell" all of the copies that North Avenue Publishing is providing under the auspices of its Books Across America mission. I would think a "donation box" could be set up during the upcoming Poetry Night, as I expect several of you will be sharing your poems that will be featured in HORIZONS.
